Oct. 13: Time to work on your portrait. The good copy is due Oct. 19. I showed how to post writing on the student blog (handout). You need to submit one piece this term. It's worth 5% of the term mark.
Oct. 11: Students wrote on a prompt, and exchanged their writing with others who wrote on the same prompt. What worked well in these pieces of writing? Apply to your fiction writing.
Oct. 5: Outside journals are due today for a check. Music warmup. The "portrait" assignment was introduced and discussed, with examples. The next 2 classes will be spent on this.
Oct. 3: Time to work on the good copies of notebook entries. We began with a music warmup (Entry 12).
Sept. 29: We began with a reading from Richard Wagamese's novel, Indian Horse. Time was given to select 2 notebook entries for revision. Class time will be given next day to write the good copies. One entry should be submitted to the Student Blog.
Sept. 27: Time to finish/revise SF 4, and get help from me. I read aloud several examples.
Sept. 25: Music warmup. What is observation? Examples, using photos, were shown and discussed. Time to choose a photo and begin the observation piece (S.F. 4). Complete draft for hw.
Sept. 21: Music warmup. Time to complete S.F. #3, which is Entry 8 in your notebooks. Note: I will collect your outside journals on Oct. 5.
Sept. 19: Music warmup. I returned your notebooks and we spent more time on practicing sentence fluency, as well as going over answers to S.F. #1. Time to complete S.F. #2
Sept. 15:
No music warmup today. Students spent all of class writing a "Norman Rockwell" story based on a painting. I collected your Sentence Fluency #1 sheets and your notebooks at end of class and assigned a practice sheet for hw. Keep writing in your outside journals as well!
