A haiku is a three line poem. The first and third lines should be 5 syllables long. The second line should be 7 syllables.
1. Use at least two sensory images. These should appeal to at least two of the five senses [sight, sound, taste, touch and smell].
2. Use two sound devices [alliteration, assonance, and consonance are good choices].
Topics: Any specific aspect of nature makes for a good topic. Describing a specific sport or athlete works really well too. Read the student examples to the right.
